Used bikes for sale on Marketplace and Kijiji, in your frame size

Quick answer

To find used bikes for sale in your size, open Marketplace’s Bicycles category or Kijiji’s Bikes category and add a size to your search, such as “54 cm” or “medium”. Marketplace has no frame-size filter. On a computer, Sift, a free browser extension, reads the size in each listing, hides bikes that won’t fit, flags missing serials and opens Bike Index’s stolen-bike search in one click.

Where used bikes are listed

On a computer, Facebook Marketplace bikes live in the Bicycles category, with the usual location, radius, price, condition and sort filters. Searching “road bike”, “mountain bike” or a model name works too. Kijiji’s Bikes category is split into road, mountain, BMX, kids’, e-bikes and more, and picking the subcategory first clears out exercise bikes and helmets.

What neither site does well is size. Marketplace has no frame-size filter, and on both sites the size usually sits in the title or description, not a field you can filter. Searching two or three spellings (54cm, medium, size M) helps, but misses every bike whose seller wrote the size differently or not at all.

Filter bikes by frame size

Sift adds the bike size filter both sites lack. Turn on Frame size in Settings › Filters › Bikes, pick the sizes you ride from the XS to XL chips, and the bikes in other sizes disappear from Marketplace and Kijiji searches. Each size covers road frames in centimetres and mountain frames in inches:

Sift’s frame sizes
SizeRoad, gravel and hybrid (cm)Mountain (inches)Also read as
XSunder 5014 or underextra small, très petit (TP)
S50 to 5315 to 16small, petit
M54 to 5617 to 18medium, moyen, M/L
L57 to 5919 to 20large, grand
XL60 and up21 and upextra large, XXL, très grand (TG)
  • It reads the formats sellers use: centimetres, inches tied to the frame (“17 inch frame”), letters, words, French sizes and Specialized’s S1 to S6. Wheel sizes such as 29er and 700c aren’t mistaken for frames.
  • Unknown sizes are your call. Under When the size is not given, choose Show or Hide.
  • Nothing disappears silently. A hidden bike keeps its reason, “Frame size L” or “Frame size unknown”, so you can peek at it.
  • Only bikes are touched. Helmets, racks and exercise bikes are never hidden for their size.

The size Sift read also heads the listing’s details card: Bike · size M (54 cm), or Bike · size M (18 in) for a mountain frame.

Road bikes for sale are where this saves the most scrolling, since a 54 cm and a 58 cm frame look alike in a grid of photos. Between sizes? Read bike frame sizes in used listings.

Spot a stolen bike before you message

A stolen bike can look like any other listing. The clues are in the wording, and Sift marks them on the photo, with the seller’s words in the details card:

  • Check this: No serial number. “Serial scratched off”, “no serial”, or a seller who won’t share it.
  • Check this: Lock without key. “Lost the key”, “cut the lock”, “forgot the combo”, or an e-bike sold without its battery key.
  • Check this: Found bike. A bike the seller says they found in an alley, a park or a building’s bike room.
  • Good sign: Serial shown. The serial is written in the listing, the seller says it’s in the photos, or the bike is registered on Bike Index.
A serial in the listing becomes a one-click Bike Index check.

Under Check elsewhere, Bike Index comes first. With a serial in the listing, the link is Check the serial on Bike Index. Without one, it’s Stolen bikes nearby on Bike Index, around the listing’s city, or Stolen bikes on Bike Index for the brand. The search opens only when you click. In Canada, also run the serial through the police CPIC search; the full routine is in how to check if a bike is stolen.

Price drops, fair price and alerts

Every bike also gets Sift’s general tools. A ↓ 25% badge marks a price that has fallen, with the dated history when you point at it. A Below typical, Typical or Above typical verdict compares the price with the other bikes on the page, and Sold on eBay is one click away.

Good bikes sell in an afternoon, so save your search and choose Watch this search. Sift checks it in the background, as often as every 15 minutes on Kijiji and every 30 on Facebook, and only tells you about new bikes that pass your size filter. More in new-listing alerts.

Set it up in a minute

  1. Open Settings › Presets and pick the one-click Bike setup. It saves a preset named “Bike” with the frame-size filter on and the “Broken or for parts” word pack, which hides parts bikes.
  2. Pick your sizes in Settings › Filters › Bikes. Until you do, no bike is hidden for its size.
  3. Choose Show or Hide for bikes with no size given.
  4. Search Marketplace or Kijiji, and set price and radius with the site’s own filters.

For the inspection and test ride, use the used bike checklist; for e-bikes, the used e-bike guide covers batteries and motors.

Where it runs

Sift is free and needs no account. It runs in Chrome, Edge or Brave on a computer, keeps everything on your own machine, and doesn’t run in the phone apps. Sift is independent and not affiliated with Meta, Kijiji, Bike Index or any bike brand named here.

Questions people ask

Can you filter Facebook Marketplace bikes by frame size?

Not with Facebook’s own filters. You can add “54 cm” or “medium” to your search, but many listings write the size differently or not at all. On a computer, Sift’s frame-size filter reads the size from the title and description and hides the sizes you didn’t pick.

What size is a 54 cm road bike?

A medium on Sift’s chart, which reads 54 to 56 cm road frames as M. Brands size differently, so check the maker’s chart for that model and year.

Does Sift tell me if a bike is stolen?

No. It points out warning signs (no serial, a lock without its key, a found bike) and opens the right Bike Index search. A bike that isn’t on Bike Index can still be stolen, because many thefts are never reported.

Which bikes does Sift recognise?

Road, mountain, gravel, hybrid, cyclocross, fat bikes, BMX, e-bikes and more, from bike words in the title or a brand such as Trek, Specialized, Giant, Norco or Rocky Mountain. Exercise bikes, motorbikes, dirt bikes, scooters, helmets, racks, locks and parts are left alone.

Can I get alerts for new bike listings?

Yes. Save a bike search and choose Watch this search. Sift checks it as often as every 15 minutes on Kijiji and every 30 on Facebook, and runs new listings through your frame-size filter before it notifies you.

Does Sift work in the Facebook app?

No. Sift is a browser extension for Chrome, Edge and Brave on a computer. It doesn’t run in the Facebook or Kijiji apps or in a phone’s browser.
