Quick answer

Sift is a free browser extension that works on Kijiji as well as Facebook Marketplace. On kijiji.ca it hides Top Ads, ads you’ve already opened, sold ads, ads past your distance and anything with words you block. It marks price drops and reposts, and checks saved searches for new ads as often as every 15 minutes. It runs in Chrome, Edge and Brave on a computer, with no account.

Kijiji is still where a lot of Canada buys and sells, especially cars, and in Quebec and smaller cities. It also leaves a lot of the work to you: paid ads at the top of every search, alerts that arrive the next day, and no memory of what you’ve already looked at. Sift fills those gaps on kijiji.ca.

What Kijiji does, and doesn’t do, for buyers

Kijiji’s own help page is direct about the first row: “Listings shown in the Top Ads section are not affected by sort settings.” A Top Ad is also a second copy of a listing that still appears in the regular results, so a busy search can show you the same ad twice.

How to hide Top Ads on Kijiji

There is no setting for it. Kijiji sells Top Ads as a visibility upgrade, so they appear on search pages whatever filters or sort order you choose. On the app and a phone browser, the only option is to scroll past the Top Ads section to where the regular results begin.

On a computer, people on RedFlagDeals have tried ad-blocker rules that hide the Top Ads section. They work until Kijiji changes its page, then either stop matching or hide the wrong thing.

Sift handles Top Ads the way it handles sponsored listings on Facebook: they leave the page as it loads, and the regular results move up. The pill at the bottom counts what went; click it to see each hidden ad and the reason. With Top Ads gone, Most Recent finally starts with the most recent ad.

One search, both sites

The same couch is often on Kijiji and Facebook Marketplace at different prices, and some sellers only use one. From any listing, Sift’s check-elsewhere links run the same search on the other site in one click, with no retyping, and your filters apply on both. They also open eBay sold prices for the item and Google Lens on the photo, so you can tell a fair price from a stolen picture.

What Sift can see on Kijiji

Sift asks for two sites, kijiji.ca and facebook.com, and nothing else. On Kijiji it reads the ads on the page: titles, prices, places, photos and posting times. It never reads your messages, your account or your saved payment details, and it never posts, replies or buys anything. There is no Sift account and no Sift server, so nothing about your searches is sent to us. Your price history stays on your computer. The privacy policy sets it out in full.

Questions people ask

Is there a Chrome extension for Kijiji?

Yes. Sift is a free extension that filters Kijiji and Facebook Marketplace. It hides Top Ads, seen and sold ads, ads past your distance and blocked words, marks price drops and sends new-ad alerts. It runs in Chrome, Edge and Brave on a computer and is coming soon to the Chrome Web Store.

How do I get rid of Top Ads on Kijiji?

Kijiji has no setting to hide them, and its help centre says Top Ads are not affected by sort settings. Scroll past the Top Ads section to reach the regular results, or use Sift on a computer, which removes Top Ads from the results page as it loads.

How often does Kijiji send search alerts?

Kijiji’s help centre says alerts set up on the website send new matching listings once a day, and the app lets you choose daily or weekly. Sift checks a saved Kijiji search as often as every 15 minutes. More in our Kijiji alerts guide.

Does Sift work in the Kijiji app?

No. Sift is a browser extension, so it works on kijiji.ca in Chrome, Edge or Brave on a computer. On your phone, Kijiji’s own saved searches and the Most Recent sort are still the best tools.

Is Sift made by Kijiji?

No. Sift is independent and not affiliated with Kijiji, Meta or Facebook. It is a separate extension that changes how kijiji.ca looks in your own browser.
