How to hide sponsored ads, “Ships to you” and eBay listings on Facebook Marketplace
Quick answer
You can’t switch sponsored listings off in Facebook Marketplace: there is no setting for it. You can hide ads one at a time from their menu, and set Delivery method to Local pickup so shipped and eBay items drop out. On a computer, a filter extension such as Sift removes sponsored, “Ships to you” and partner listings from every search as the page loads.
| What you see | Facebook’s own option | With Sift, on a computer |
|---|---|---|
| Sponsored listings | Hide each ad from its menu, one at a time | Hidden on every search |
| “Ships to you” listings | Delivery method: Local pickup | Hidden on every search |
| eBay and other partner listings | Local pickup removes most of them | Hidden on every search |
| Kijiji Top Ads | No setting, and they ignore your sort order | Hidden on every search |
What “Sponsored” means on Facebook Marketplace
A sponsored listing is an ad. A business paid to place it among the listings from people near you, and it is dressed to look like one of them: a photo, a price, a title. The difference is underneath. A local listing leads to a seller you can message and meet; a sponsored one usually leads to a shop, often a website outside Facebook.
Most of these are ordinary shops. Some are not, and that matters more on Marketplace than anywhere else, because the whole point of the page is buying from strangers. The US Federal Trade Commission counted $2.1 billion in reported losses to scams that started on social media in 2025. Online shopping was the most reported kind, and more than 40% of the people who lost money said it began with ordering something they saw in an ad.
How to hide a sponsored listing
Facebook lets you hide a single ad. On a computer or in the app:
- Find a listing marked Sponsored in your Marketplace results.
- Open the ad’s menu. It is the three dots on the listing (in the app, the same ••• button).
- Choose Hide ad, then pick a reason. The listing disappears.
- To see less from that business, open the same menu and choose Why am I seeing this ad?, where you can hide the advertiser.
It does not stick, and that is by design. Hiding an ad hides that ad, and tells Facebook a little about what you don’t want. It does not remove the ad slots. The next search fills them with new advertisers, so hiding by hand is a game you can’t finish. Your ad preferences in Facebook’s settings work the same way: you can see less of a topic or an advertiser, but there is no switch for ads in Marketplace.
How to stop seeing “Ships to you” listings
“Ships to you” listings are items a seller will post to you rather than meet you with. Marketplace mixes them into local results, and they ignore your distance setting. That is why a search within 10 km can fill up with things from the other side of the country.
The fix is the Delivery method filter:
- Search for what you want on Marketplace.
- Open the filters: in the left column on a computer, or the Filters button in the app.
- Under Delivery method, choose Local pickup.
- Check it again on your next search. Many people find it doesn’t carry over.
Local pickup is also the quickest way to see what is really near you. If far-away listings still get through, the radius itself is the problem: see why Marketplace shows listings outside your radius.
Why there are eBay listings on Facebook Marketplace
Since early 2025, Facebook Marketplace has shown listings from eBay in the US, Germany and France, through a partnership between the two companies. They look like any other listing but carry eBay’s name, they are shipped rather than collected, and you pay on eBay.
Two things follow. First, eBay’s buyer protection covers the purchase, not Facebook’s, so check eBay’s terms before you pay. Second, there is no setting to remove them. Because they always ship, the Local pickup filter clears out most of them.
Do ad blockers work on Facebook Marketplace?
Partly, and not for long. Facebook builds its ads into the page itself, so an ad blocker can only hide them with rules that match how the page is put together. When Facebook changes the page, those rules stop matching, and a rule that is too broad can hide real listings or blank out Marketplace altogether. Ad blockers also leave “Ships to you” and partner listings alone, because those aren’t ads, and they do nothing in the Facebook app.
Hide them all automatically on a computer
Sift is a free browser extension for Facebook Marketplace and Kijiji. On a computer, in Chrome, Edge or Brave, it hides sponsored listings, “Ships to you” items and partner listings such as eBay’s as each page loads, on every search, without you doing anything. Nothing about Facebook changes: the listings are simply left out of the grid you see.
You keep control of what went. A small pill at the bottom of the page counts what Sift hid (“12 hidden”); click it to peek at each hidden listing with the reason it went, and bring any of them back. To hide a listing by hand, press h with the pointer over it; you get 6 seconds to undo.
On Kijiji, the same switch hides Top Ads, the paid listings that sit above everything else. Kijiji’s own help page says Top Ads are not affected by your sort settings, so even “newest first” starts with them. Sift takes them out so newest really means newest. More on that in Sift for Kijiji.
Sift runs in your browser on a computer. It doesn’t work in the Facebook app or on a phone’s browser, so on your phone the Local pickup filter above is still your best tool. See everything Sift can filter.
Questions people ask
Can you turn off sponsored ads on Facebook Marketplace?
No. Facebook has no setting that removes them. You can hide sponsored listings one at a time from their menu, or use a filter extension on a computer, which hides them on every search.
Are sponsored listings on Facebook Marketplace safe?
Many are ordinary shops, but an ad can send you to a website outside Facebook that you know nothing about. Treat one like any online store you have never used. Check the business, pay by credit card, and walk away from prices that look too good.
Why is Facebook Marketplace only showing shipped items?
Marketplace mixes items that ship to you into your local results, and they ignore your distance setting. Set Delivery method to Local pickup to see only things you can collect. On a computer, Sift can hide “Ships to you” listings on every search.
How do I get rid of eBay listings on Facebook Marketplace?
There is no toggle for them. eBay items ship rather than meet, so the Local pickup filter removes most of them. On a computer, Sift hides partner listings like these as the page loads.
Does hiding one ad stop the others?
No. Hiding an ad removes that ad and tells Facebook what you don’t want to see, but the next search brings new advertisers. That is why hiding by hand never really clears the page.
