How to make Facebook Marketplace show only local pickup listings

Quick answer

Facebook Marketplace has no permanent local-only setting, but one filter gets close. In the app or on a computer, open Filters, set Delivery method to Local pickup and pick a small radius around your postal code. The filter can reset with each new search, so check it every time. On a computer, Sift, a free browser extension, hides every “Ships to you” listing on every search.

Is Facebook Marketplace local only?

No. Marketplace began as a place to buy from people nearby, and the location and radius you set still decide which local listings you see. Meta’s own help page puts it simply: searching by location and distance shows you items for sale near you. But three kinds of listing are mixed in that don’t follow those rules:

  • “Ships to you” items. Sellers who will post the item to you instead of meeting. Meta describes shipping as a way to buy from sellers across the continental United States, not only near you.
  • Partner listings. Since January 2025, eBay listings have appeared on Marketplace, starting in the US, Germany and France. eBay says only its listings with shipping are shown, and you pay on eBay, not Facebook.
  • Sponsored listings. Ads from businesses, placed among the local results. Our guide to hiding sponsored listings covers them.

The order you see them in isn’t yours either. Unless you change Sort by, Marketplace uses Suggested, and Meta says it shows first the listings it predicts you will value most. Distance is one of the signals it weighs, not the only one.

Why shipped listings flood your local results

A shipped listing has no pickup spot, so where the town would be, the card says “Ships to you”. With no place to measure, it isn’t held to your radius. That is how a search within 10 km ends up showing a sofa from another province, and why a popular search can push the people near you well down the page.

For a local buyer, this matters for more than tidiness. Picking up in person means you see and test the item before you pay. A shipped item is paid for first and judged from photos. Meta’s checkout covers eligible shipped purchases with Purchase Protection, but a seller who asks you to pay another way for an item they will post is how most Marketplace shipping scams begin. Our guide to shipping scams on Marketplace has the warning signs.

How to show only local pickup listings on a computer

  1. Open Marketplace at facebook.com/marketplace and search for what you want.
  2. Click your location under Filters in the left column. It shows a place name and the current radius.
  3. Type your postal code (or ZIP code) and pick it from the list. This moves the centre of the circle from downtown to near your home.
  4. Choose the smallest radius that still gives you results, then click Apply.
  5. Under Delivery method, choose Local pickup. “Ships to you” items and partner listings drop out.
  6. Set Sort by to Distance, so the nearest listings come first.
  7. Bookmark the page. The web address keeps most of the filters you set, so the bookmark reopens the search local only, without setting it up again.

How to see only local listings in the Facebook app

  1. Tap Marketplace, then search for what you want.
  2. Tap Filters on the search results.
  3. Set Delivery method to Local pickup, and Sort by to Distance, then apply.
  4. Tap your location near the top of Marketplace, enter your postal code, set a small radius and tap Apply.
  5. Check Filters again each time you search for something new.

Some versions of the app also offer Local listings under Categories, which opens Marketplace on items near you. If yours shows it, it is a quick place to start browsing.

Marketplace in a phone’s web browser has fewer filters than the app, and you may not find Delivery method there at all. If so, switch to the app.

How to keep a Marketplace search local only

There is no setting that keeps Local pickup on. Facebook’s filters tend to go back to their defaults when you start a new search or switch category, and saving a search for notifications doesn’t save your delivery choice. Three habits help:

  • Look before you scroll. If the results start with “Ships to you” cards, the filter has reset.
  • Keep a bookmark per search on a computer, with Local pickup and your radius already set.
  • Change the location, not just the radius. If far-away towns keep appearing with Local pickup on, the radius itself is leaking. See why Marketplace shows listings outside your radius.

Facebook Marketplace near me

There is no separate “near me” page to find. Open facebook.com/marketplace on a computer, or tap Marketplace in the Facebook app, and it opens on listings around the location Facebook has for you. If that location is wrong, or set to the middle of a big city, click it and enter your postal code. Our guide to changing your Marketplace location covers every device, and the fixes when it keeps jumping to another city.

Hide every “Ships to you” listing with Sift

The Local pickup filter works, but it is a step you repeat on every search, and it does nothing about ads. On a computer, Sift does it for you. It is a free browser extension for Facebook Marketplace and Kijiji. There is no account to make, it works right in Chrome (and in Edge and Brave), and it takes about a minute to set up.

Turn on Hide shipped and partner listings in Sift’s settings (it is also a switch in the popup), and every listing marked “Ships to you” or sold through a partner such as eBay leaves the grid as the page loads. It stays on for every search, in every category, until you turn it off. Because a shipped card names no town, a distance limit has nothing to measure; that is why shipped listings get a switch of their own.

The same popup clears out the rest of what isn’t local:

  • Sponsored listings are hidden from the start.
  • A distance limit measured from the home you set, in km or miles, hides anything past your line and puts the distance on every card. Your home never leaves your computer.
  • Dealers can be hidden or just tagged, and wanted posts (“ISO”, “WTB”) hidden.

Nothing disappears without a trace. A small pill at the bottom of the page counts what went (“12 hidden”); click it to see each hidden listing with its reason, “Ships to you” included, and bring back anything you want.

Sift reads the listings that stay, too. When a seller says they will only ship something you would normally collect, such as a sofa, a fridge or a car, Sift adds a red flag under Check this: “Ships only”.

Sift runs in Chrome, Edge and Brave on a computer. It doesn’t work in the Facebook app or in a phone’s browser, so on your phone the Local pickup filter above is still the tool to use. See everything Sift can filter.

Questions people ask

Why does Facebook Marketplace show shipped items?

Marketplace mixes items that ship with listings from people near you, and a shipped listing has no pickup spot, so your radius doesn’t hold it back. In some countries, eBay listings, which always ship, are mixed in too. Set Delivery method to Local pickup to see only things you can collect.

Can you turn off shipping on Facebook Marketplace?

Not permanently. As a buyer, set Delivery method to Local pickup in the filters, and check it again when you start a new search. On a computer, Sift hides “Ships to you” listings on every search until you switch it off. As a seller, you choose whether to offer shipping when you list an item.

How do I see only local listings on the Facebook app?

Search for what you want, tap Filters, set Delivery method to Local pickup and apply. Then tap your location near the top of Marketplace, enter your postal code and choose a small radius. Sorting by distance puts the closest listings first. The app has no setting that keeps this on, so glance at Filters on each new search.

Why does the Local pickup filter keep turning off?

Marketplace filters often go back to their defaults when you start a new search or switch category, and there is no option to make them stick. Saving a search for notifications doesn’t keep it either. On a computer, bookmark a search with Local pickup set, or let Sift hide shipped listings for you.

Does Local pickup hide eBay listings on Marketplace?

Mostly, yes. eBay says only its listings that offer shipping appear on Facebook Marketplace, and you check out on eBay, so choosing Local pickup clears them out. Sift hides them along with other shipped and partner listings.

Why do I still see other cities with Local pickup on?

Local pickup removes items that ship, not items that are far away. The radius is a straight-line circle drawn from a point for your area, and sellers pick the town their listing shows. Set your location to your postal code and use a smaller radius, or set a hard distance limit from your home with Sift.
