What does “Ships to you” mean on Facebook Marketplace?

Quick answer

“Ships to you” appears where the town should be when a seller will post the item instead of meeting you. Those cards ignore your radius. In the US, many are paid through Facebook’s checkout, and eBay listings, which also ship, are paid on eBay. To hide them, set Delivery method to Local pickup, or on a computer let Sift, a free browser extension, hide them on every search.

What “Ships to you” means

On a Marketplace card, the line under the price and title normally names the seller’s town. When it reads “Ships to you” instead, the seller has listed the item for shipping only. There is no meetup and no pickup: you pay, and the item arrives in the post.

A seller who offers both pickup and shipping keeps their town on the card, so a card with a town is something you can collect. Only shipping-only listings lose their place line, and that is the seller’s choice when they list.

The missing town also explains why these cards ignore your radius. Marketplace draws a circle around your location, and a listing that only ships has no pickup point to put inside or outside it. Meta’s shipping help describes shipping as a way to buy from sellers across the continental United States, not just nearby. That is how a search within 10 miles opens with a sofa three states away.

Outside the US, Facebook’s shipping and checkout may not be offered at all. If you see a “Ships to you” card in Canada, the UK or Australia, find out how the seller expects to be paid before you message them.

Why eBay listings are on Facebook Marketplace

In January 2025, Meta began testing eBay listings on Marketplace in the US, Germany and France. Reports at the time tied the move to the European Commission’s decision two months earlier, which fined Meta €797.72 million for tying Marketplace to Facebook. In Europe, the same pressure produced the Facebook Marketplace Partner Program: classifieds sites in the European Economic Area can show their listings on Marketplace, ranked alongside ordinary ones and marked with an icon, with every sale finished on the partner’s website.

eBay’s own pages fill in how its listings behave:

  • Only eBay listings that offer shipping appear, so you will never be asked to collect one.
  • The card shows eBay’s price and shipping, with what eBay calls a partnership icon.
  • Buying sends you to eBay to check out. Guest checkout works, so you don’t need an eBay account.
  • Sellers don’t opt in and pay no extra fees. A seller who wants out can ask eBay, which removes them within 30 days.

On US searches, some retailers’ cards also read “Partner listing”. Nothing on Facebook lets a buyer switch partner listings off, but the Local pickup filter below clears them because they always ship.

What we couldn’t confirm: whether eBay listings appear on Marketplace in Canada, the UK or Australia. We found no announcement for those countries. If you see one there, you still pay on eBay, under eBay’s rules.

How buying a shipped item works

A US listing with shipping is bought through Facebook’s checkout, not by agreeing a price in Messenger. You pay in Facebook’s own payment form, the seller ships, and you follow the order, and raise any problem, from your Marketplace purchases. Our guide to shipping on Marketplace covers tracking checks, the fake courier scripts and the deadlines for a claim.

An eBay card is simpler. Facebook hands you over to eBay, and from then on it is an eBay order, with eBay’s checkout, returns and customer service. A European partner listing works the same way on the partner’s site. Our Marketplace vs eBay comparison explains where each one is the better place to buy.

Which protection applies

Meta’s Purchase Protection covers eligible orders bought with shipping or checkout. It pays out when an order never arrives, arrives damaged or not as described, when a seller ignores their own refund policy, when the purchase wasn’t authorized, or when the seller has been removed from Facebook. Meta lists what it doesn’t cover just as plainly: purchases made through third-party sites, local pickups and Messenger transactions.

So an eBay card is not Meta’s to cover, because you pay on a third-party site. eBay said at launch that these sales are protected by its Money Back Guarantee and its other policies. A pickup paid in cash has no Facebook cover either; your inspection before you pay is the protection.

The dangerous case looks like a checkout order but isn’t. A seller who says “I’ll ship it, just e-transfer me” or “send it by Zelle and I’ll post it today” has taken the deal out of checkout, and nothing protects that payment. Most Marketplace shipping scams start exactly there. Our guides to Marketplace payment methods and buyer protection explain what you can and can’t claw back.

When a shipped listing is worth buying

Shipping makes sense when the item is small, standard and easy to judge from photos, so a “not as described” claim would be easy to prove. It makes little sense for anything you would normally test in person.

For everything from phones down, a seller who will only ship takes away the one thing that protects you: seeing the item before you pay. Our guide to used furniture on Marketplace covers what to check at the door.

How to hide “Ships to you” and eBay listings

Facebook has no switch to turn shipped listings off, but one filter clears them from a search:

  1. Search for what you want in the Facebook app or at facebook.com/marketplace.
  2. Open the filters. Tap Filters in the app, or use the left column on a computer.
  3. Under Delivery method, choose Local pickup, then apply.
  4. Check it again on each new search. Filters can go back to their defaults when you search for something else.

eBay and partner listings always ship, so Local pickup clears them too. On a computer, bookmark the filtered search and it reopens local only. A phone’s web browser may not show Delivery method at all, so use the app.

If far-away towns still appear, the radius itself is leaking; see why Marketplace shows listings outside your radius. The full setup, postal code and sort order included, is in how to make Marketplace local only, and ads are covered in hiding sponsored listings.

Hide them on every search with Sift

The Local pickup filter does the job, but it is a step you repeat on every search. On a computer, Sift takes it over. Sift is a free browser extension for Facebook Marketplace, with no account to make.

Switch on Sift’s shipped and partner listings filter once. Every Facebook listing marked “Ships to you” or sold through a partner such as eBay then leaves the grid as the page loads, on every search and in every category, until you switch it off. Listings that offer pickup as well as shipping show a town, so they stay.

The pill in the corner counts what went; click it to see each hidden listing with its reason, “Ships to you”, and bring back anything you want.

Sift also looks out for you on the listings that stay. When a seller will only ship something you would normally want to see first, such as furniture, an appliance, a vehicle, a phone, a laptop, a console, a bike or a valuable trading card, Sift adds a red Ships only chip. It also names other common warning signs, such as Pay first for a seller who wants money before you see the item and Off-site contact for one who wants to move the chat to text or WhatsApp.

An iPhone listing in Toronto that asks for an e-transfer to hold it and a text off Facebook. Sift flags both and quotes the seller’s own words.

Kijiji has no “Ships to you” card, so this switch is for Facebook. Sift runs in Chrome, Edge and Brave on a computer, so on your phone the Local pickup filter is still the tool. See everything Sift can filter.

Selling: can you turn shipping off on your own listing?

Yes, because shipping is the seller’s choice. A listing set to ship only shows “Ships to you”; list for local pickup and buyers see your town instead. For a live listing, open it, choose Edit and look at its delivery options. Meta’s shipping help covers selling with shipping in the US. If it is your eBay listings turning up on Facebook, ask eBay, which opts sellers out within 30 days of a request.

Questions people ask

What does “Ships to you” mean on Facebook Marketplace?

It means the seller will post the item instead of meeting you, so the card shows “Ships to you” where the town would be. These listings aren’t limited by your radius. In the US, many are bought through Facebook’s checkout, which brings Purchase Protection on eligible orders. A listing that offers both pickup and shipping keeps its town on the card.

Why am I seeing eBay listings on Facebook Marketplace?

Since January 2025, Meta has shown eBay listings on Marketplace, starting with a test in the US, Germany and France, two months after the European Commission fined Meta for tying Marketplace to Facebook. Only eBay listings that offer shipping appear. They carry eBay’s price and a small partnership icon, and buying one takes you to eBay to pay.

How do I get rid of eBay listings on Facebook Marketplace?

There is no setting that removes them. Because every eBay listing on Marketplace ships, setting Delivery method to Local pickup in the filters clears them, along with other “Ships to you” items. Check the filter on each new search. On a computer, Sift, a free browser extension, hides shipped and partner listings on every search until you switch it off.

Can you turn off “Ships to you” on Facebook Marketplace?

Not permanently, because Facebook has no setting for it. Choose Local pickup under Delivery method each time you search, or on a computer bookmark a search with the filter already set. Sift, a free browser extension, keeps them out of every search in Chrome, Edge or Brave.

Is it safe to buy an item that ships on Facebook Marketplace?

It can be, if you pay through Facebook’s checkout, where eligible orders are covered by Purchase Protection, and you stick to small items that are easy to judge from photos. Paying a seller by e-transfer, Zelle, Venmo or gift card for an item they promise to post is not safe. That is how most shipping scams start, and nothing covers it.

Does Facebook Purchase Protection cover eBay listings?

No. Meta’s Purchase Protection excludes purchases made through third-party sites, and an eBay listing on Marketplace is bought on eBay. eBay said at launch that these sales are protected by its Money Back Guarantee and its other buyer policies, so any problem with the order goes to eBay, not Facebook.

Why does Marketplace show shipped items when I set a small radius?

Your radius is a circle drawn around your location, and a shipping-only listing has no pickup spot to place inside or outside it, so the circle doesn’t hold it back. Meta describes shipping as a way to buy from sellers across the continental US. Set Delivery method to Local pickup to see only things you can collect.
