Sift vs MarketClean: which Facebook Marketplace filter fits you?

Disclosure We make Sift. MarketClean’s website, Chrome Web Store listing and Firefox listing were reviewed on 21 October 2026.

Quick answer

Both filter Facebook Marketplace on a computer. MarketClean runs in Firefox too, but its free plan stops at 5 blocked words, and its distance filter, ad hiding, phrase lists and show-only-new now need MarketClean Pro ($4.99 a month or $39 a year). Sift gives you unlimited blocked words and a distance limit free, plus price history, scam red flags, desktop alerts, an AI second opinion and a VIN check. Sift Pro, from $6.99 a month, adds phone alerts and more.

Where MarketClean is the better pick

MarketClean makes sense in a few cases, and Firefox is the main one: its Firefox add-on runs where Sift doesn’t. The broader extensions comparison covers the rest of the field.

It suits you if:

  • Firefox is your browser. MarketClean has a Firefox add-on; Sift doesn’t run there.
  • You only want a strict radius and phrase rules, and you don’t mind paying for both.
  • You want a one-click Saved page view that drops sold, pending and removed listings together.

Where Sift is the better pick

Sift goes past hiding listings. The radius is the clearest difference: Sift’s distance limit comes free, in kilometres or miles from the home you set, and so does an unlimited list of blocked words. One switch clears “Ships to you” and partner listings, and each listing that stays shows how far away it is.

Sift’s Hide shipped and partner listings switch on a Toronto sofa search: the four “Ships to you” listings go, and the four local ones stay with their distance.

The rest is what MarketClean doesn’t list at all.

  • Price drops and dated history on each listing, a badge for listings deleted and posted again, and a fair price label that shows how the asking price compares with similar listings.
  • A red chip for common scam signs, such as Pay first for a deposit up front or Off-site contact for a move off Facebook.
  • An AI second opinion on any listing: press “Is this a good deal?” for a verdict, a fair offer and a message ready to send the seller.
  • A VIN check on car ads that matches the VIN to the year, make and model and shows recalls on record for the model.
  • Find it used: click Sift on a store’s product page to see the same thing used near you, and what you’d save.
  • Alerts for new listings on the searches you watch, on your desktop free and on your phone with Sift Pro.
  • Dealers (hidden or tagged), wanted posts and listings with no price, on top of the usual filters.
  • Category checks for cars, trading cards, LEGO sets, bikes and phones, with price guides and checks such as an IMEI lookup. One click sets Sift up for each.
  • Support for Kijiji as well as Facebook Marketplace, switched on in one click.

Sift runs in Chrome, Edge and Brave on a computer. It is free, needs no account and takes about a minute to set up, and Sift Pro adds phone alerts, 5 watched searches and 50 AI second opinions a month from $6.99 a month.

Compare the distance feature and its terms

MarketClean’s distance filter now needs Pro after a seven-day trial, at $4.99 a month or $39 a year, and one subscription covers up to five browsers.

Sift’s distance filter is free. Set your home once and every search stays inside your radius, with the distance on each listing. If a result ever looks off, the distance troubleshooting guide walks through the usual causes.

Can you use both?

You can, but two filters on one page end up hiding the same listings twice, which makes it hard to tell which one did what. Pick one for a week on a search you know well. If you do run both, keep their rules from overlapping and keep a way back to the unfiltered view.

Questions people ask

Is MarketClean free?

Partly. Its free plan blocks up to 5 words and keeps the basic cleanup tools. The distance filter, ad hiding, phrase lists and show-only-new now need MarketClean Pro after a 7-day trial. In Sift, blocked words are unlimited and the distance limit comes free.

How much is MarketClean Pro?

Its website lists $4.99 a month or $39 a year, and one subscription covers up to five browsers. Sift is free to use, and Sift Pro is $6.99 a month or $49 a year for phone alerts, 5 watched searches, 50 AI second opinions a month and a VIN check on every car. See Sift’s plans.

Does MarketClean work on Firefox?

Yes. MarketClean has a Firefox add-on as well as its Chrome version, and its website lists Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Brave. The Firefox add-on is listed on Mozilla’s add-ons site.

Does Sift work on Firefox?

No. Sift runs in Chrome, Edge and Brave on a computer, and not in Firefox, Safari, the Facebook app or a phone’s browser. If Firefox is your everyday browser, MarketClean is the one of these two that runs in it.

Does MarketClean send alerts for new listings?

MarketClean doesn’t list alerts for new listings. Sift watches the searches you pick and alerts you to new matches that pass your filters, on your desktop free or on your phone by Telegram, ntfy or email with Sift Pro.

What does Sift do that MarketClean doesn’t?

Price history and price-drop badges on every listing, a fair price label, scam red flags such as Pay first, an AI second opinion with a fair offer and a message for the seller, a VIN check on car ads, Find it used for store products, Kijiji support, and alerts for new listings, on your phone too with Sift Pro.

Which is more private, Sift or MarketClean?

Neither needs an account. Sift keeps your browsing and listing history on your computer, and its server only handles what you ask it to, such as your plan, phone alerts, second opinions and VIN checks. Sift’s privacy page has the details, and MarketClean publishes its own privacy explanation.

Does MarketClean work on Kijiji?

MarketClean’s website covers Facebook Marketplace and doesn’t list Kijiji. Sift works on Facebook Marketplace and on Kijiji too. Switch on Kijiji in Sift, and the same filters, price history and alerts work there.
