Facebook Marketplace extensions compared: filters, alerts and privacy
Disclosure We make Sift, one of the extensions below. Facts about the other extensions come from their Chrome Web Store pages, read on 6 October 2026, and we re-check them every quarter. We don’t rank them.
Quick answer
Facebook Marketplace extensions come in four kinds: filters that hide listings you don’t want, single-job tools such as price trackers, all-in-one tools, and paid cloud alert services built for resellers. Pick by the job you need done, then check five things: which sites it covers, what it costs, whether it needs an account or your Facebook password, where your data goes, and when it was last updated.

How we built this table. We searched the Chrome Web Store for Facebook Marketplace and Kijiji tools on 6 October 2026, kept the ones built for buyers and updated this year, and read each listing’s description and privacy section. We left out tools for sellers (listing, reposting, cross-posting), data scrapers, and extensions that haven’t been updated since 2024, because Facebook changes its page often and stale extensions tend to stop working. We left out ratings and user counts: most of these extensions have only a handful of ratings, and Sift isn’t on the store yet, so it has none.
Which one fits your job?
Ranked lists don’t help much here, because these tools do different jobs. Start from what is annoying you.
- You only shop Facebook and want a hard distance limit. MarketClean (Pro) and Sift both cut listings beyond a radius from a home you set. MarketClean sends place names to OpenStreetMap to work out distances; Sift looks them up in a built-in list on your computer. MarketClean also runs in Firefox; Sift doesn’t. More on the problem in why Marketplace shows listings outside your radius.
- You want to hide a few listings by hand. Hide Listings does one thing simply, with a page to undo what you hid.
- You want to screen out low-effort posts. FB Marketplace Filter Pro reads full descriptions and flags new seller accounts, which neither Sift nor most others do.
- You are watching a few specific listings for a price cut. Facebook Marketplace Price Tracker is the better fit: it checks the listings you pick and sends a notification when the price changes. Sift marks drops and keeps a history for everything you scroll past, but it doesn’t send a notification for a single listing’s price.
- You also shop Kijiji. Kijiji History adds history to Kijiji ads. Sift is the only one in this table that filters, tracks prices and sends alerts on both Kijiji and Facebook Marketplace.
- You resell and need alerts within a minute or two, on your phone. A cloud alert service, below. They cost money, but they keep checking while your computer is off.
For what Facebook’s own filters can and can’t do before you add anything, see Sift vs Facebook Marketplace’s own filters.
Cloud alert services, for resellers
These aren’t browser extensions. They run on the company’s servers, check Marketplace for you around the clock, and send alerts to an app, email or a messaging service. Most need an account and a subscription, and they are built for people who buy to resell.
| Service | Covers | Reported price | Built for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Swoopa | Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, OfferUp, Kijiji, Gumtree, Nextdoor, eBay | About US$47 to US$352 a month | Resellers sourcing deals |
| Marketplace Monitor | Facebook Marketplace (iPhone and Android app) | About US$25 to US$170 a month | Fast alerts on a phone |
| Flipify | Eight marketplaces including Kijiji | About US$5 to US$10 per watchlist a month | Watchlists across sites |
| CarSnipe | Facebook Marketplace cars | Pro about US$25 a month or US$249 a year | Car flippers |
| Outpost Alerts | Facebook Marketplace | Free trial, then paid | Cloud watchlists |
Before you sign up, read how a service gets to Marketplace. One that asks for your Facebook login, or tells you to install something that runs searches with your account, is acting as you. Meta’s terms say you may not access or collect data from its products “using automated means” without its permission.
Is it safe to use an extension on Facebook?
An extension that rearranges the page in your own browser is about as safe as the people who made it. Five checks before you add any of them, ours included:
- Read the permissions. Chrome shows them when you add an extension. A Marketplace tool needs to read and change facebook.com (and kijiji.ca, if it supports Kijiji). One that asks for all your data on every website is asking for more than it needs. Chrome Web Store policy tells developers to request “the narrowest permissions necessary”.
- Never hand over your Facebook password. A browser extension doesn’t need it. It works in the tab where you are already signed in.
- Read the privacy section. Every store page has one. Look for whether the tool needs an account, whether it sends anything to its own server, and whether it runs analytics.
- Check the last-updated date. Facebook changes its page often. An extension untouched for a year or more may hide the wrong things, or nothing.
- Be wary of automation. Tools that message sellers for you, post on your behalf or scrape results with your account are the ones most likely to get an account flagged.
Where Sift fits
Sift is a free browser extension for Facebook Marketplace and Kijiji. It hides what you don’t want to see (sponsored listings and Kijiji Top Ads, listings you already opened, sold items, listings beyond your radius, blocked words, dealers and wanted posts), marks price drops with a dated history, flags listings that ask for a deposit first or want to move to WhatsApp, rates each price against the page, and checks up to 10 searches for new listings as often as every 15 minutes. It needs no account, has no server and collects no analytics.
Its limits, plainly: it runs in Chrome, Edge and Brave on a computer, not Firefox and not the Facebook app. Its alerts run in your browser, so your computer has to be on. And it isn’t on the Chrome Web Store yet. If a tool above does your one job better, use that one. Everything Sift does is listed on the features page.
Questions people ask
What is the best Chrome extension for Facebook Marketplace?
It depends on the job. Some extensions only hide listings, some track prices on listings you pick, some do several things, and cloud services send fast alerts for a monthly fee. We make Sift, so we don’t name a winner. The table on this page lists what each one does, what it costs and what it does with your data, as of October 2026.
Is there a Facebook Marketplace extension for Firefox?
A few. MarketClean has a Firefox version, for example. Most Marketplace extensions, Sift included, are built for Chrome and also run in Chromium browsers such as Edge and Brave. None of them run inside the Facebook app.
Can Facebook ban you for using an extension?
An extension that only changes what you see in your own browser doesn’t act on your account. Meta’s terms do forbid collecting data from its products by automated means without permission, so be careful with tools that log in as you, send messages for you or scrape listings with your account.
Is there a Kijiji Chrome extension?
Very few are maintained. Kijiji History shows price changes and repost times on Kijiji ads, Map List for Kijiji shows results on a map, and Sift brings its filters, price history, scam checks and alerts to Kijiji as well as Facebook Marketplace.
Do I need to give an extension my Facebook password?
No. An extension that works in your browser uses the Facebook tab you are already signed in to. Never type your Facebook password into an extension, a website or an app that offers to “connect” Marketplace.
Do Marketplace extensions work on a phone?
Not in the Facebook app, and not in most phone browsers. Extensions like these run in a browser on a computer. On a phone, the cloud alert apps listed on this page are the tools that work.
