Why is Facebook Marketplace not showing up?

Quick answer

If the Marketplace icon is gone, open it from the app’s Menu or go to facebook.com/marketplace, then pin it back to the tab bar. “Marketplace isn’t available to you” is about eligibility: a new account, a country without Marketplace, an age limit or a secondary profile. If Marketplace opens but shows nothing local, fix your location and radius and set Delivery method to Local pickup.

The Marketplace icon is missing

A missing icon rarely means Marketplace has gone; the app moves its tab bar shortcuts around. To open it now, tap Menu (your profile picture or the three lines), then Marketplace. On a computer, click Marketplace in the left-hand menu of your Feed, or go to facebook.com/marketplace.

To pin it back (Meta’s steps, iPhone and Android):

  1. Tap Menu, then Settings & privacy.
  2. Tap Settings, then Tab bar.
  3. Tap Customize the bar.
  4. Open the dropdown next to Marketplace and choose Pin. On Auto, Facebook decides when to show it, which is often why it vanishes.

If Marketplace isn’t in that list, update the app. If facebook.com/marketplace won’t open on a computer either, the problem is your account’s access.

“Marketplace isn’t available to you”

Your account can’t use Marketplace, for now or for good. Meta publishes no eligibility list; the commonly reported reasons are a new or barely used account, a secondary profile, an account under the adult age, and a country Marketplace hasn’t reached. It launched in 2016 in the US, UK, Australia and New Zealand and has spread widely since, Canada included, but it isn’t everywhere.

Switch to your main profile, use Facebook normally for a few weeks, and confirm your age if asked: Meta says some regions require it, by birthday, photo ID or video selfie. Don’t buy or borrow an account to get around it: Facebook locks them.

Your Marketplace access is limited or suspended

Meta says it may limit or suspend Marketplace access for breaking its Commerce Policies, and warns you first that access is “at risk”. To check:

  1. Go to your profile and tap or click the three dots.
  2. Choose Profile status.
  3. Under Extra features, select Marketplace.

If a rejected listing caused it, the mobile screen offers Fix it now, then Request review. Meta restores the listing if it made a mistake, and on a first violation you may be able to remove the warning. It gives no timeline for reviews or limits.

Marketplace opens but no listings show

Rule out an outage first: our guide to Marketplace search not working has the quick checks. If Facebook is up, reset your filters. A price cap, a condition, a narrow category and a small radius together can leave nothing; our guide to Marketplace filters explains each one.

Extensions, ad blockers especially, can blank the page. Try a private or incognito window, where extensions are usually off; if listings appear, turn yours back on one at a time. Marketplace in a phone’s browser is also a cut-down version, so try the app or a computer.

Listings show, but nothing local

Usually it’s your location. Marketplace draws the radius from the location it has for you, which may be a city centre or an old address. Click it at the top of Marketplace, enter your postal code (or ZIP code) and pick a smaller radius. If it keeps jumping, see why your Marketplace location is wrong or how to change it on every device.

Then shipped listings. A “Ships to you” card has no pickup spot, so your radius doesn’t hold it back. In Filters, set Delivery method to Local pickup, and check it on each search because it resets; see making Marketplace local only. Far-away towns still showing? Read why the distance filter misses.

A listing you saw has disappeared

It sold and the seller deleted it, the seller took it down to post again, Meta removed it, or the seller blocked you, which hides all their listings from you. Check your saved items (facebook.com/saved on a computer), and if you were chatting, ask in Messenger.

Your own listing missing? It may be rejected or in review; see Meta’s page on rejected Marketplace listings.

Using a filter extension? Check what it hid

If listings vanish while you use a filter extension, check what it hid; a missing Marketplace is something no extension can fix.

Sift, a free browser extension for Facebook Marketplace, never hides anything silently. The pill in the corner counts what went (“12 hidden”); click it to see each listing with its reason, such as “Ships to you”, “Sold”, “No price” or “Distance unknown”, and bring any back. If your rules catch nearly everything, it says “Most listings hidden”.

The usual self-inflicted causes: a distance limit measured from the wrong home, a new-only view left on, or a maximum age set too short for a quiet search. To rule Sift out, switch Sift off and reload.

For too few local listings, Sift can hide every “Ships to you” and partner card, and a distance limit from your home labels each card with its distance. No account, it works right in Chrome (also Edge and Brave) on a computer, and setup takes a minute. It doesn’t run in the app or a phone’s browser. See everything Sift can filter.

A desk search with shipped and partner listings hidden. The four “Ships to you” listings leave with their reason, and the pill counts them.

Questions people ask

Why can’t I see Marketplace on Facebook?

Either the shortcut is hidden or your account can’t use Marketplace. In the app, tap Menu, then Marketplace; on a computer, go to facebook.com/marketplace. If it opens, pin it back under Settings, Tab bar. If you see “isn’t available to you” or a restriction notice, it’s an access problem instead.

What does “Marketplace isn’t available to you” mean?

Facebook has decided your account can’t use Marketplace, at least for now. Commonly reported reasons are a new or little-used account, a country without Marketplace, being under the adult age, or a secondary profile. Use your main profile, confirm your age if asked, and keep using Facebook normally.

How do I get Marketplace back on the Facebook app?

Tap Menu, then Settings & privacy, Settings, Tab bar and Customize the bar. Open the dropdown next to Marketplace and choose Pin, so Facebook stops hiding it on Auto. If Marketplace isn’t in the list, update the app, and open it from Menu meanwhile.

Why is Facebook Marketplace not showing local listings?

Usually your Marketplace location is off, or shipped listings are crowding out local ones. Click the location at the top of Marketplace, enter your postal code and pick a smaller radius. Then set Delivery method to Local pickup in Filters, and check it on each new search, because it resets.

How long does a Facebook Marketplace restriction last?

Meta doesn’t say. Its help page explains that access can be at risk, limited or suspended for breaking the Commerce Policies, with no timeline for limits or reviews. Check your profile’s three dots, Profile status, then Marketplace under Extra features, and request a review there.

Why did a Marketplace listing disappear?

Most often it sold and the seller deleted it, or they took it down to post it again. Meta also removes listings that break its rules, and a seller who blocks you disappears from your view entirely. Check your saved items, or ask in Messenger if you were already chatting.
